Allison Martino is entering her fourth season with the Owls after being hand-picked by head coach Nicky Adams to join the staff. Martino's knowledge and enthusiasm for the game, as well as her leadership and playing credentials, helped her make an immediate mark on Rice soccer.
In the summer of 2013 the National Soccer Coaches Association of America named Martino as one of the rising assistants in all of women's collegiate soccer. Her influence on the Owls is easy to see. Soon after joining Rice in 2011 the program won its first conference regular season title in 2012.
At Rice Martino assists with all areas of the soccer program and she has a primary focus on training sessions, game tactics and recruiting. She had success and similar responsibilities in her previous post as an assistant coach at Texas State University in the 2010 season. In one year with the Bobcats, Martino helped a young Texas State team win 12 games and challenge for a conference championship.
"I am absolutely thrilled Allison is part of our Rice Soccer family," said coach Adams. "Allison is a tremendous asset to our soccer program. She is a tireless worker and her dedication to this sport is amazing. She brings a high level of energy and a wealth of knowledge for our student-athletes. Allison was a phenomenal player and the sky's the limit for her coaching career."
Martino was a four-year letterwinner at Texas A&M (2005-08) who earned All-Big 12 and All-Central Region honors. In her career at A&M, Martino tallied 22 assists and eight goals. She led the team with eight assists her junior season, including a career-high three assists in a single game against nationally-ranked Oklahoma State. Martino once scored two goals in a single game at Nebraska as a senior in 2008.
Following her collegiate career, Martino participated in a U.S. U-21 National Team camp before playing for the Boston Renegades, a W-league team. She was then selected to play women's professional soccer by the Boston Breakers in the ninth round as the 57th overall draft pick.
A native of Draper, Utah, Martino is a 2004 graduate of Alta High School where she led her prep team to the 2002 Utah 5A State Championship and finished as the school's all-time assist leader and second on the all-time goals list.
Martino graduated from Texas A&M in 2009 and spent that season as the Aggies' volunteer assistant coach. While on the A&M staff the team won 15 games and reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
