Rice is 3-8 all-time in C-USA openers and 1-5 against ODU.

Last Time Out
Rice won its sixth consecutive game with a 96-42 victory over Huston-Tillotson last Wednesday evening at Tudor Fieldhouse. The Owls ran their season-high win streak to six straight games for the first time since the 2012-13 campaign. Rice had five players score in double-figures, led by a game-high 19 points from junior guard Shani Rainey. The Fairfield, Texas native made 7-of-12 shots from the field in 26 minutes of action. Old Dominion Scouting Report
The Lady Monarchs were picked to finished third in the C-USA Preseason Poll and are led by redshirt senior guard Jennie Simms, who has won the C-USA Player of the Week three times and is third in the nation in scoring (25.1 ppg). Simms also leads all C-USA players in free throws made (69), made field goals (93) and defensive rebounds per game (7.0). As a team the Lady Monarchs rank 34th in the nation in rebounds per game (43.4), second-best in C-USA.

No Points for You
Much of Rice’s success this non-conference season can be attributed to their stingy defense. The Owls have not allowed more than 66 points in a game this season and rank as the top scoring defense in C-USA (52.9 ppg), and 13th in the nation. Rice also presents the number-one ranked three-point FG% defense (24.9) in the league, which is ninth-best in the nation.

Goodwine Chasing History
Senior forward Jasmine Goodwine enters play Saturday with 962 career points, just 38 points away from becoming the 16th player in Rice history to reach the 1,000 point milestone. The Killeen, Texas native is averaging 9.9 points per game this season.

Stellar Bench Contributions
In their last three games the Owls’ bench has outscored its counterpart by a combined margin of 136-35.
