Women's Basketball's Win Streak Snapped At Houston
HOUSTON- Rice's women's basketball team had their three-game win streak snapped at Houston, as the Cougars defeated Rice 66-59 at Hofheinz Pavilion. Megan Shafer scored a career-high 15 points for the Owls.

The Owls Are Back In Town
After a 15-day break away from the basketball court, the Rice Owls women’s basketball team returns to action on Friday for an afternoon matinee at 1 p.m. against crosstown rival and former C-USA member Houston Cougars. The Owls last played on Dec. 5, defeating Texas State 74-61. Houston has lost three straight, which includes a 70-63 setback at Texas State on Dec. 15.
Briefly On The Owls
Rice senior forward Jessica Kuster continues to lead the nation in total rebounds (134) and is fifth in rebounds per game with a career-high 13.4 boards per contest (first in C-USA). Kuster is also second in the country in total double-doubles (8), trailing only Maryland’s Alyssa Thomas.
Rice vs. Houston
The Cougars own a 43-10 all-time record against the Owls, which includes a 69-59 triumph over Rice last season. Houston also defeated the Owls 53-51 in their lone trip to Tudor Fieldhouse last season, clipping the Owls despite a game-high 22 points and 15 rebounds. Rice swept the season-series against Houston during the 2011-12 season.
Rice is coming off a 40-point bench performance against Texas State and have now outscored their opponent reserves by a combined score of 104-62 over the last four games. Last time out Alyssa Lang scored a career-high 10 points and Elena Gumbs contributed a season-high 12 points.
Kuster is one of only two seniors in America that averaged a double-double in their first three seasons, joining Middle Tennessee’s Ebony Rowe.
Putting Points On The Board
The 77 points by the Owls surpassed the Owls 2012-13 season-high 76 points and was tied for the most points by an Owls teams since they scored 77 points in a 77-50 win at Chicago State on Nov.18, 2011.
