The Rice women's basketball team plays its first game since Dec. 3 when it hosts the Bobcats of Texas State (4-3) on Friday night, December 16. Game time is set for 7 p.m. inside Tudor Fieldhouse.
Rice leads the series 7-3 and captured last year's contest 97-50. Jessica Kuster poured in 26 points and snared 14 rebounds for the Owls in the victory.

Rice sports a 4-5 mark after losing to Texas A&M Corpus Christi (64-61) and Oregon State (63-57) in the Gene Hackerman Invitational. The Owls played without the services of the nation's number two rebounder in Jessica Kuster. Kuster is averaging 13.1 rpg and injured her left foot in the contest vs. UALR (Nov. 26). She is also averaging 19.9 ppg, which ranks 21st in the nation and first in Conference USA. Senior Brianna Hypolite is Rice's next highest scorer at 10.7 ppg and freshman Christal Porter is the squad's second-leading rebounder at 6.3, ranking 17th in Conference USA.

The Bobcats are 4-3 on the year after beating Huston-Tillotson 102-69 on Dec. 6. Junior guard Diamond Ford, a product of Houston's Hightower H.S., leads TSU in scoring at 18.4 ppg, which is tops in the Southland Conference. Ashley Ezeh follows at 14.0 ppg and is second in rebounding at 8.0. Verinus Kalu leads TSU on the glass at 9.4 rpg. Bobcat head coach Zenarae Antoine played her first three years of collegiate basketball under Rice head coach Greg Williams when he was leading Colorado State.
