Owls Close Tough Stretch at Texas A&M
The Rice Owls (5-1) will close a stretch of three games in six days this Wednesday when they travel College Station to face the No. 18 Texas A&M Aggies. The Owls are coming off a 73-65 loss at Kansas on Sunday, which prevented the first 6-0 start in school history. Texas A&M leads the all-time series over the Owls, 29-10. Rice last defeated the then ranked No. 10 ranked Aggies back on Dec. 1, 2006 at Autry Court.

Ogwumike Named C-USA Player of the Week
Rice redshirt sophomore guard Erica Ogwumike was named the C-USA Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon. Ogwumike helped lead the Owls to a 2-1 record last week and guide Rice to their best start to a season since 2001-02. Ogwumike recorded a pair of double-doubles and averaged 23.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2.7 steals and 1.0 blocks. The Pepperdine transfer currently ranks third in C-USA in scoring (18.8 ppg), fourth in rebounding (9.2 rpg), and first in steals (3.3 spg).

Last Time Out
The Owls suffered their first loss of the season last Sunday, dropping a 73-65 decision to the Kansas Jayhawks at Allen Fieldhouse. Rice trailed just 61-58 with 6:29 left in the fourth quarter but the Jayhawks managed to stave off any Owls comeback attempt with a 12-7 advantage the rest of the way. Redshirt sophomore guard Erica Ogwumike notched her third 20-plus point performance of the season for the Owls with a game-high 22 points, 17 of which came in the second half.

Three-Point Shot a Key for Owls
The Owls lead all of C-USA in made three-pointers (48) and rank 44th in the nation in the category. Rice is second in the league in three-point makes per game (8.0) and fourth in three-point percentage (36.9). Nicole Iademarco ranks seventh in C-USA in three-point makes per game (2.0) and has made at least one three-pointer in each of the Owls first six games.

Knight Approaching Milestone
Rice senior guard Wendy Knight enters play on Wednesday just two three-point field goals away from 100 for her career. The San Antonio, Texas native ranks eighth in school history with her 98 made three-point field goals.

Staying Out of Harm’s Ways
Due to injuries, the Owls have been forced into a short rotation and have been among the nation’s best in staying out of foul trouble. Rice currently ranks second in C-USA and 30th in the nation with 14.8 personal fouls per contest.

Texas A&M Scouting Report
The Aggies will be playing the second night of a back-to-back after hosting Prairie View A&M on Tuesday. Texas A&Mis ranked No. 18 in the Associated Press Top 25 and were picked to finish fourth in the SEC. Freshman guard Chennedy Carter is the team’s leading scorer at 20.6 ppg. The Aggies are led by head coach Gary Blair, who is 12th all-time with 743 career wins.

Up Next
Rice will get a bit of a break following Wednesday with nine off days before hosting Incarnate Word on Dec. 9 (2 p.m.) at Tudor Fieldhouse.
