Houston - Rice University head women's basketball coach has announced the hiring of Blessing Chekwa as director of operations for the women's basketball program.
Chekwa previously served as a graduate assistant for the Bulldog Club fundraising unit at Mississippi State University, where she also received dual master's degrees in sports administration and public policy in 2011. At MSU, she also worked as a graduate assistant in the admissions office, worked with the athletics marketing department, and coordinated a regional marketing analysis for Ford Motor Company. Prior to her work at MSU, Blessing served as an assistant coach for the women's basketball team at East Central Community College.
A 2006 graduate of Mississippi State with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology, Blessing was a two-year team captain of the women's basketball team and served on the MSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She also has been an active in the community, travelling to the Czech Republic with Athletes in Action, and volunteering time with Mississippi Special Olympics, Big Sisters and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
