Owls Travel to Sam Houston St.
The Rice Owls (3-0) women’s basketball team will attempt to improve to 4-0 to start a season for the first time since the 2007-08 campaign when they travel to Sam Houston State (1-1) on Tuesday, Nov. 21 (6:30 p.m.). The Owls are 2-0 on the road this season while the Bearkats are coming off an 80-41 victory in their home opener over Wiley College. Rice leads the all-time series over the Bearkats, 18-7, including a 77-51 triumph over Sam Houston last year at Tudor Fieldhouse.

Dating back to last year, the Owls have won seven consecutive games overall and trail only the defending national champion South Carolina Gamecocks (15 straight) for the longest current active win streak in the nation.
Last Time Out
Rice placed five players in double-figures, as the Owls used a strong start to defeat crosstown foe Houston Baptist, 67-45, last Saturday at Tudor Fieldhouse. With the victory, the Owls improved to 3-0 for the first time since the 2007-08 season. Sophomore guard Erica Ogwumike led the Owls with 13 points and seven rebounds and junior forward Olivia Ogwumike added 13 points. Junior guard Gabrielle Stanton had 11 points and a career-high eight assists.
Sam Houston St. Scouting Report
The Bearkats (1-1) are coming off an 80-41 victory over Wiley College last time out and will be seeking to win consecutive non-conference games for the first time since 2015. Jenniffer Oramas has led Sam Houston in scoring in each of its first two games. The sophomore has shot 45 percent from the field, producing 13 points per game. She also leads the team with nine assists. Sam Houston was picked to finish 13th/13 in the Southland Conference Preseason Poll.
The Owls host Little Rock this Friday following Thanksgiving at 2 p.m. from Tudor Fieldhouse.
