HOUSTON, Texas – Rice University senior forward Jessica Kuster began her final season as an Owl in grand fashion last Friday and for it was named both the Conference USA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week and the College Sports Madness C-USA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the two affiliates announced on Monday.
Kuster, a native of San Antonio, Texas (Reagan HS), earned her second career C-USA Player of the Week honor after recording a game-high 33 points and 15 rebounds in Rice’s 77-63 season-opening victory at Prairie View A&M. The double-double was Kuster’s 41st of her career as she made 11-of-17 shots (64 percent) and was a perfect 10-of-10 at the free throw line.
In the process, Kuster moved into a tie for second place in Rice history with 991 rebounds, the eighth-most in C-USA history. Kuster also took over sixth-place on the Owls’ all-time scoring list with 1,486 career points.
This is Kuster’s second-ever College Sports Madness Player of the Week award, having also taken home the honor on Dec. 31, 2012.
