Rice University head women's basketball coach Greg Williams has announced the signing of Megan Palmer, from Katy, Texas, to a National Letter of Intent to attend Rice and play basketball for the Owls beginning in the fall of 2012.
Palmer joins Elena Gumbs (Ciobolo, Texas) and Alyssa Lang from (Rockwall, Texas) as those that have signed for next season. All three are rated in the top 48 on Texas Top 100 list (Gumbs-36 and Lang-23).
Palmer, a 6'1" forward for Cinco Ranch H.S., is No. 48 on Joey Simmons' Premier Basketball Report for 2012. As a junior in 2011, Palmer averaged 14.4 points per game and 8.4 rebounds. She tallied a season-high 30 points vs. Fort Bend Dulles H.S. and 26 against Clear Creek H.S. For the year, Palmer scored 20+ points eight times and was in double-digit scoring 28 times as the Cougars posted a 23-14 record. She also registered 16 games with double-digit rebounds. For 2009 and 2010, Megan was a second team all-district and academic all-District selection.
Greg Williams quotes on Megan Palmer:
"Megan is a versatile player who will play both the three and four positions at Rice. She creates match-up problems with her ability to play inside and on the perimeter. Megan is now stepping out to the three-point line; she can put the ball on the floor, and is a physical post-up player with her back to the basket. She possesses good athleticism to allow her to defend both the three and four positions as well. We really liked the fact Megan is very competitive and plays with great intensity and enthusiasm. She is someone who will compete for quality playing time immediately as a freshman. Megan verbally committed to us early in her junior year so it's nice to make it official today. She had a great summer and we look for her to have a fantastic senior year at Cinco Ranch High School."
