HOUSTON - The Rice women's basketball team embarks on the 2016-17 season with an exhibition tilt Friday evening at 7 p.m. versus Concorida. Admission to Friday's game will be free.
The Owls return four starters and eight letterwinners from last year's squad, one that advanced to the C-USA Championship quarterfinals for the first time since 2012. Rice head coach Tina Langley and staff are in their second season after setting the foundation last year with an impressive 4-1 record in overtime contest.
The Owls, who were picked to finish seventh in Conference USA, return their top three leading scorers, led by senior forward Jasmine Goodwine (12.5 ppg). Junior guard/forward Shani Rainey (11.2 ppg) and senior point guard Maya Hawkins (10.7 ppg) return with a wealth of experience as well.
Rice opens the non-conference season Nov. 11 when they host Prairie View A&M in the season opener at 7 p.m.
Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. at Tudor Fieldhouse and RiceOwls.com will provide live stats via GameTracker.
