HOUSTON- Rice women's basketball held its first full team practice of the 2012-13 season today. The Owls are coming off two consecutive postseason appearances, and look to make a third straight trip to the postseason this year, which begins on November 9 against Prairie View A&M.
The Owls are led by junior forward Jessica Kuster, who ranked 9th in the nation in rebounding. Kuster averaged a double-double with 17.3 points and 11.1 rebounds. Kuster was second in C-USA in scoring. Kuster, a First Team All-C-USA selection is joined by Christal Porter, who was a Freshman All-C-USA starter off the bench in 2011-12.
Greg Williams enters his eighth year as head coach of the Owls, and his 19th season overall, having posted a 306-255 career record. Williams has helped the Owls to four postseason appearances in his seven seasons at the helm of the Owls.
Rice had its second consecutive .500-or-better season in 2011-12, finishing tied for third in C-USA for the second straight year. The Owls have been at least tied for a top four spot in C-USA four out of seven seasons in the league.
The Owls kick off their season November 9 at Tudor Fieldhouse, hosting Prairie View A&M.
