HOUSTON— To coordinate with the start of 2015-16 preseason practice, the Rice Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams will participate in the 2016 “Come Ready to Play” Final Four tipoff event, held this Friday, October 2 at Market Square Park in Houston from 5-9 p.m.
The event, which will be held at 301 Milam Street, will feature Final Four Fan fest ticket giveaways, live music, a fan experience park and more. Fans will also be able to meet players from both teams.
Rhoades returns five letterwinners from last year’s squad, including senior Max Guercy and junior Marcus Jackson. Guercy averaged 9.8 points while ranking third in Conference USA with 4.5 assists per game. Jackson is the leading returning scorer from last year’s squad, averaging 14.5 points while leading C-USA with 2.7 three-pointers per game. Rice also welcomes a strong freshman class that will be expected to contribute right away.

Tina Langley was named the fifth head coach in Rice University women’s basketball history on April 7 after spending seven seasons serving as Maryland’s associate head coach, compiling a 195-49 record during her tenure and making two Final Four appearances. Junior forward Jasmine Goodwine returns as the Owls leading scorer (10.8 ppg). Goodwine scored in double-figures in 17 of 30 games last season and ranked eighth in the league in blocks per game (1.1). The Owls graduated five seniors, which includes last year’s leading scorer and rebounder Christal Porter.
