Jae Cross has been promoted to associate head coach for women's basketball, the program announced on Tuesday. She has served as an assistant coach at Rice for the past three seasons, after coming to Rice in 2008-09 as director of operations.
"I am pleased and excited to move
Jae Cross up to Associate Head Coach," said head coach Greg Williams. "She started as our Director of Operations and has accepted additional responsibilities every year. She is deserving of this promotion and has contributed greatly to our program in many ways."
"Coaching at such a prestigious academic and athletic institution like Rice is something I look forward to every day," said Cross. "Being able to take this next step in my coaching career under Coach Williams and with this Rice family is a great honor. I have such an appreciation for the way Coach Williams runs this program, what he stands for and the tremendous mentor that he is. I would like to thank my family for their continued support and thank Coach Williams and the administration for this extraordinary opportunity."
Cross has helped the Owls to two postseason appearances, advancing to the WNIT in 2011 and the Women's Basketball Invitational in 2012. Six Rice players have earned All-C-USA honors, and three players have been tabbed Freshman All-C-USA since her arrival on campus in 2008.
Cross played professionally for Williams as a member of the Detroit Shock prior to coming to Rice, part of a three-year WNBA career and a 12-year career on the Australian National Team.
