HOUSTON -- The Rice University women's basketball program announced on Wednesday the signing of Haylee Swayze (Purcell, Okla., Purcell HS) to a National Letter of Intent for 2018-19. The 5'11" guard becomes the fourth member of the incoming Rice class.
"Haylee is an exceptional young lady whose work ethic and determination have allowed her to excel in both her academic and athletic pursuits," Rice head coach Tina Langley said. "She comes from a tremendous family that exemplifies our program's values and we are so proud to welcome them to the Rice family."
Swayze is coming off a senior season in which she averaged 21.8 points, earning Canadian Valley Conference Most Valuable Player honors while helping lead the Dragons to a district championship. Swayze also received OGBCA All-State and Little All City accolades.
In addition to basketball, Swayze was an all-state athlete in softball, track and cross country. She helped her softball team to a 2017 State Championship and won individual championships in the 100 hurdles in 2016 and in the 300 hurdles in both 2016 and 2017.
Haylee will be joining Jasmine Smith and Arianna McCurry as well as redshirt sophomore Nancy Mulkey in Rice's 2018 signing class. The addition of Swayze only bolsters a class already ranked #1 in Conference USA by All Star Girls Report.
