Jessica Kuster was named a Touching Hearts Through Athletics Award recipient, the organization announced on Tuesday. Kuster earned the award for embodying being a team player, accepting academic responsibility, and sportsmanship, on and off the court.
Kuster was named C-USA Defensive Player of the Year, becoming the first Owl to earn that distinction. She averaged 16.1 points and 10.1 rebounds, becoming one of two juniors to average a double double each of the past three seasons.
Kuster joins a fraternity that includes former collegiate winners Elena Della Donne (Delaware), Collin Klein (Kansas State, football) and Nnemkadi Ogwumike (Stanford), and former high school winner, Adaeze Obinnah, a Rice signee.
Since 2002 over 300 high school and collegiate athletes from 27 states have been selected.
