The Rice women's basketball team's season will continue as it has accepted an invitation to play in the third annual Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI). This marks the second straight year in which the Owls have played in a post-season tournament.
The WBI, operated by Sports Tours International, is a 16-team event that takes place over two weeks with all games played on campus sites. This year it begins March 14 and ends with the title game on March 24 or 25. Conference USA rival UAB Blazers won last year's WBI event, while Appalachian State captured the 2010 title.
The Owls have now played in four post-season tournaments under head coach Greg Williams. Rice previously competed in the WNIT in 2006, 2007, and 2011.
Rice will learn its opponent and game day information Monday evening.
