Owls to Face Lady Techsters at C-USA Championships
The 10th seed Rice Owls women’s basketball team will open up the C-USA Championships with a second round matchup against the No. 7 Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters on Wednesday, March 9 at 5 p.m. (CT). This will be the third meeting of the season between the two schools with each respective team winning on their own home court. Rice most recently defeated the Lady Techsters 84-77 on Senior Day at Tudor Fieldhouse on Feb. 27. LA Tech leads the all-time series versus Rice, 11-7. Wednesday will be the first meeting between the two schools in postseason play since the Owls defeated LA Tech 86-66 in the second round of the WAC Tournament in 2005.

How to Watch
The C-USA Championship games Tuesday-Thursday will be streamed for free at AmericanSportsNet.com before moving to the CBS Sports Network Friday and Saturday. 

Last Time Out
A late second half run propelled the Old Dominion Lady Monarchs to a 61-52 victory over the Owls in the regular season finale Saturday afternoon at the Ted Constant Convocation Center. Rice lost for the first time this season (5-1) when leading by 10 points or more after claiming a 30-20 lead with 3:51 left in the second quarter. The Owls were led in scoring by junior forward Jasmine Goodwine, who scored 13 points and pulled down a team-best 6 rebounds. Rice had six players scored 6 or more points and made 7-of-15 attempts (47 percent) from three-point territory.

Rice Tournament History
The Owls will be looking to snap a four-year losing streak at the C-USA Championships. Rice has lost eight of their last nine C-USA Championship games overall, having last recorded a win (64-50) in the opening round of the tournament on March 7, 2012 against Houston. Last season the 12th seeded Owls lost in the opening round to Old Dominion, 62-57. This will be the first appearance for the Owls at the C-USA Championships under first-year head coach Tina Langley.

LA Tech Scouting Report
The Lady Techsters ended the regular season on a three-game losing streak and dropped six of their final eight overall. The Techsters are led by C-USA First-Team All-Conference senior wing Brandi Wingate, who finished the season as a top-five scorer (17.2 ppg) and top-10 rebounder (7.6 rpg) in the league. Wingate averaged 21.5 ppg against the Owls during the regular season on 57 percent (16-of-28) shooting from the field and 91 percent at the free throw line (10-of-11). The Lady Techsters allowed the second-fewest made three-pointers (78) during league play and held opponent to just 28.6 percent shooting from beyond the arc.

What's Next
The winner of the Rice-LA Tech game would advance to the quarterfinals to face No. 2 Middle Tennessee. That game will take place on Thursday, March 10 at 5 p.m. (CT) and will be streamed for free via the American Sports Network.
