IRVING, Texas- Rice senior post Christal Porter was selected to her first All-Conference USA Team, the league announced Sunday afternoon. The honor comes on the heels of a season-saving career game in which the Germantown, Tenn. native recorded career-highs in points (30) and rebounds (19), while helping the Owls advance to the C-USA Championship tournament with a 79-62 win over UTEP.
Porter, who was named to the C-USA All-Academic Team last week, was tabbed to the All-Conference USA Second Team as voted on by the league's coaches and SID's.
Porter entered Saturday ranked 10th in the nation (first in C-USA) in rebounding and bumped her average up to 11.8 rebounds per game after her career-high 19 rebounds yesterday. She also recorded her 13th double-double of the year, which is top three in the league.
The senior has played and started in all 29 games this season and leads the Owls in scoring (11.4 ppg), made field goals (144), rebounds (11.9 rpg) and minutes played (29.8 mpg).
Porter becomes Rice's 12th overall All-C-USA selection since 2006 and seventh different player to be recognized by the league.
The Owls will be back in action on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. when they face Old Dominion in the opening round of the C-USA Championship.
