IRVING, Texas – For a third time this season Rice senior forward Jessica Kuster was awarded the Conference USA Player of the Week, the league office announced on Saturday.
Kuster, a native of San Antonio, Texas, helped the Owls close the regular season in winning fashion by scoring 28 points and grabbing 14 rebounds in Rice’s 61-51 victory at UAB last Wednesday. The double-double was Kuster’s 25th of the season and the 66th of her illustrious career, breaking the C-USA all-time career record of 65 previously held by TCU’s Sandora Irvin.
After starting the game 0-for-8 from the floor, Kuster recovered to make 12 of her next 18 shot attempts from the field to finish 12-of-26 overall and 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. Kuster also had three blocks and two assists.
This is Kuster’s fourth C-USA Player of the Week honor of her career. She and the rest of the Owls will open the C-USA Tournament as the No. 12 seed against No. 13 FIU on Tuesday. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. (MT).
