Owls Host UTEP on Senior Day
The Rice Owls (8-20, 3-14) close out the regular season on Saturday afternoon, and despite a four-game slide still have an opportunity at advancing to the Conference USA Tournament with a win against UTEP. The Owls sit just one game back of North Texas (4-13) for the 12th and final seed and split the season series with the Mean Green (1-1). Rice holds the tiebreaker over the Mean Green thanks to having the better win (UTSA) between the two squads shall the two teams tie. North Texas will host UTSA Saturday evening. UTEP is currently tied with Florida Atlantic for the 10th seed and is coming off a 69-61 victory at North Texas on Thursday. The Miners are just 3-7 away from the Don Haskins Center this season. Rice and UTEP met earlier this season on Jan. 4 when the Miners clipped the Owls, 54-51. Rice leads the all-times series, however, 24-16.

Last Time Out
Freshman guard Shani Rainey established a career-high with 22 points and senior guard Nakachi Maduka chipped in a season-high 16 points but it was the UTSA Roadrunners that stole the show Thursday evening with a 60-49 victory over the Owls at Tudor Fieldhouse. Rice was undone by 19 turnovers that resulted in a 20-8 advantage in points for the Roadrunners (15-14, 10-7). UTSA's Tesha Smith gave Rice fits on the inside with 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting and the Owls shot just 31 percent (15-of-48) from the field for the game.

UTEP Scouting Report
The Miners have won two of their last three games down the stretch, which included an impressive 88-75 win over Louisiana Tech. UTEP averages 66 points per game but shoots just 38 percent from the field and are led in scoring by Cameasha Turner (15.7 ppg). The Miners are the third-best shooting free throw team (.695) during league play

A Farewell to the Fab Five
Saturday's game will be the final home game for five seniors: Maya Adetula, Nakachi Maduka, Reem Moussa, Christal Porter and Megan Shafer. The five will be honored with a presentation prior to tipoff.

Rainey Delivers in Loss
Freshman guard Shani Rainey had her best offensive game of the season on Thursday, scoring a game-high 22 points on 6-of-11 shooting and a splendid 9-of-10 performance at the free throw line. Rainey entered play on Thursday having made just 43-of-106 attempts at the charity stripe (41 percent).

Porter Saving Her Best for Last
Rice senior forward Christal Porter is averaging a career-best 10.7 points and 11.5 rebounds this season and has posted a career-high 12 double-doubles. Porter has 18 double-figure rebounding performances and is ranked 10th in the nation, first in C-USA, in rebounding. With her 322 rebounds this season, Porter has the fifth-best single-season in Rice history. Porter has also moved to fourth place in school history in career rebounds with 907. The senior was named to the C-USA All-Academic Team on Thursday.
