Kuster and Mayse Named All-Conference USA

March 6, 2011

Rice freshman basketball player Jessica Kuster cleaned up as Conference USA's best players were honored Sunday as the league unveiled its 2011 Women's Basketball All-Conference Teams. The San Antonio native (Reagan H.S) was selected to the All-C-USA First Team, All-Freshman Team, and the All-Defensive Team. She is the only freshman on the First Team. Also, senior Morgan Mayse was named to the All-C-USA Third Team.

Kuster leads Rice in scoring (14.0) and rebounding (10.8) and she is one of only two players in C-USA to be averaging a double-double in C-USA (15.8 ppg & 11.9 rpg) and overall. Her 11.9 rebounds per game ranks first in C-USA only and her 10.8 rpg is second overall. Nationally, Kuster is ranked second in the nation among freshmen in rebounding and is 13th overall.

She has been selected as the C-USA Freshman of the Week 10 out of a possible 16 weeks and is the leading C-USA freshman in scoring and rebounding. Her 12 double-doubles ranks third in C-USA and she scored C-USA's season-high 35 points vs. Long Beach. She also grabbed a C-USA only season-high 20 rebounds vs. UAB, which also ties for first in overall games.

Kuster has posted double-digit scoring in 22 games and double-digit rebounding in 15 games. She currently ranks second in school history with 325 season rebounds and her 63 blocks ranks fifth.

Morgan Mayse, from Athens, Texas, has started every game this season (30) and is third on the squad in scoring (11.6 ppg), but is second in C-USA only games at 15.1 ppg for the Owls. She is second on the team in rebounding at 4.5 rpg.

Mayse was named C-USA Player of the Week after scoring back-to-back career-highs with 23 points vs. UTEP and 27 points at Southern Miss. She has scored in double-digits in 19 games and is third on the squad with 28 three-pointers made. Mayse has scored 1,079 points in her career.
