NEWS & NOTES (by Kenny Bybee (kab10@rice.edu)

Owls Face Monarchs in Opening Round
Rice looks to make a deep run in the C-USA Tournament beginning this Wednesday, when they take on the 12th-seeded Old Dominion Monarchs at 11:30 a.m. The Owls enter the tournament as the No. 5 seed after their 47-45 win over North Texas in the regular season finale. Rice defeated ODU back on Jan. 28 in Houston, 53-45 and trail the all-time series (7-2). Rice and ODU met one other time at the C-USA Tournament, a 62-57 victory by the Monarchs in 2015. Should the Owls advance, they would face No. 4 Middle Tennessee on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. (streaming on C-USA Facebook).

C-USA Tournament History
The Owls are 8-12 all-time at the C-USA Tournament (5-5 in the opening round) and 2-2 in the Tina Langley era. Last season the No. 10 seeded Owls defeated No. 7 UTSA in the opening round, 75-63, before dropping a 61-59 heartbreaker to No. 2 Middle Tennessee in the quarterfinals.

Old Dominion Scouting Report
The Monarchs (8-22, 6-10) closed the regular season with three consecutive losses and are a combined 1-14 in road/neutral games this year. Guard Victoria Morris, who was named to the C-USA All-Freshman Team, leads the Monarchs in scoring (11.1 ppg) and three-pointers made (77). Odegua Oigbokie (9.8 ppg) and MaKayla Timmons are second/third on the team in scoring, respectively.

Ogwumike, Iademarco Earn All-Conference Honors
Rice redshirt sophomore Erica Ogwumike and junior Nicole Iademarco were named to the Conference USA First and Second Teams respectively, while Ogwumike was also selected to the All-Defensive Team, the league office announced on Monday. It marked the first time the Owls have had multiple players earn C-USA All-Conference honors since 2011, when Jessica Kuster (first team) and Morgan Mayse (third team) were selected.

20/20 Club
With their win last Saturday, the Owls secured their second straight 20+ win season, marking the first time Rice accomplished the feat since the 2003-04/2004-05 seasons.
