Owls Close Out Regular Season at Old Dominion
Rice concludes their 2015-16 regular season on Saturday when they face the Lady Monarchs of Old Dominion at 12 p.m. (CT) in Norfolk, Va. The Owls are 2-5 on the road in C-USA play and are coming off a 68-63 setback at Charlotte on Thursday. ODU has gone 2-2 in their last four contests, including a 62-55 win over North Texas on Thursday. Rice recorded their largest margin of victory this season when they faced ODU in Houston back on Feb. 13. Rice trails the all-time series vs. ODU, 4-1.

Last Time Out
A valiant comeback by the Owls fell just short Thursday evening in a 68-63 loss to the Charlotte 49ers. Rice fought back from 17 points down in the first half to take a five point lead near the end of the third quarter but Charlotte outscored the Owls 22-12 the rest of the way to prevail and sweep the season series. The Owls were led in scoring by junior forward Jasmine Goodwine (16 points) while sophomore guard Shani Rainey notched her fourth double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds, 7 of which came on the offensive end.

ODU Scouting Report
The Lady Monarchs are led by forward Jennie Simms, the conference’s leading scorer at 22.1 points per game. Simms scored 33 points on Thursday for her fourth 30-plus point performance of the season. ODU ranks second in C-USA in defensive field goal percentage (.396) during C-USA play and have the best rebound differential (+6.3) among the 14 teams in the league.

What’s Next
Following Saturday’s action Rice will await their seeding for the C-USA Championships, which will take place March 8-12 in Birmingham, Ala. The Owls can still finish anywhere from the seventh seed to the 10th seed, depending on Saturday’s results, but are guaranteed a first round bye. Rice does know their first game of the tournament will take place on Wednesday, March 9.
