Kuster Leads Rice Past Houston, 64-50
Sophomore Jessica Kuster registered her 13th double-double of the season to lead the Rice women's basketball team to a convincing 64-50 victory over Houston in the first round of the 2012 Conference USA Championship Wednesday night inside the University of Memphis' Elma Roane Fieldhouse.
Owls Host Houston In Televised Game
The Owls host cross-town rival Houston, in a game televised by FSN that coincides with Rice's Play 4 Kay and National Girls and Women In Sports Day
efforts. The Owls, after four near-misses in their previous five games, defeated UAB 61-53 in their last game, leading from the 18:55 mark of the first
half until the end of the game.

Rice wears its pink warmups, shoelaces, headbands and wristbands, in honor of breast cancer awareness and for former N.C. State coach Kay Yow
Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game. The first 200 fans in attendance receive a pink Rice Basketball shirt in honor of Play 4 Kay.

Freshmen Coming Along
Since Jan. 27, Rice has gotten 16.0 points and 12.7 rebounds per game from its freshmen (Megan Palmer, Breion Allen, Alyssa Lang, Elena Gumbs). As a group,
they have accounted for 30% of the Owls' points in that span and 28% of Rice's rebounds. Allen and Lang have also set or tied single game career-highs in
scoring and rebounding in that span.
Losing Streak Comes To An End Against UAB
Rice ended a streak of near-misses with a win against UAB on Feb. 3. After conceding the first basket of the game, the Owls went on an 11-0 run and the
Blazers, and Rice maintained at least a seven-point lead until eight seconds remained in the game, when UAB temporarily cut the deficit to six before Rice
won 63-51. Jessica Kuster led the Owls with 18 pts and 14 reb, and Alyssa Lang had 8 points (all in the 2nd half) and 9 boards (8 in the 2nd half) to help
Rice to the win column.
