Owls Wrap Up Road Trip in Hattiesburg
The Owls will look to finish their three-game road swing with a 2-1 record when they travel to Hattiesburg, MS on Saturday to face the Golden Eagles at 4 p.m. Rice is coming off a tough 63-61 loss at Louisiana Tech while Southern Miss snapped a three-game losing streak with a 57-38 victory over North Texas. The two teams have played to a 5-5 series tie with Southern Miss taking the most recent meeting last season, 65-54 (1/22/15).

Last Time Out
A spirited effort on the road against one of the top-scoring teams in Conference USA fell just short Thursday evening as the Rice Owls fell 63-61 to the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters at Thomas Assembly Center. Junior forward Jasmine Goodwine led the charge for the Owls in a game that saw 19 ties and 20 lead changes, posting a career-high 28 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the field and a 9-of-11 performance from the free throw line in 36 minutes.

Southern Miss Scouting Report
The Lady Techsters had their four-game winning streak snapped last Saturday with an 86-80 loss at C-USA leading UTEP. LA Tech ranks second in the league in scoring (70.9 ppg) during league play and is first in defensive field goal percentage (.369). The Lady Techsters have also attempted 199 free throws in eight conference games, the most of any team. Senior guard Brandi Wingate leads the team in scoring (17.3 ppg).

Goodwine Scorching Hot
Over her last seven games junior forward Jasmine Goodwine has raised her game to a new level offensively, averaging 19.1 points on 53 percent shooting while making 33-of-41 (80 percent) attempts from the FT line. On Thursday Goodwine set a new career-high with 28 points, her third consecutive 20-plus point performance and her fifth 20-point game of the season. In addition, Goodwine is averaging a team-best 6.7 rebounds during that stretch.

Long Distance Owls
Through 21 games the Owls have already made (104) and attempted (357) more three-pointers than they did all of 2014-15 (94-of-321). In fact, the 100 three-point makes are most by an Owls team since the 2011-12 campaign (150). Sophomore Wendy Knight ranks 11th in 3-point makes (14) during league play.

Hanging Tough with C-USA’s Best
Following Thursday’s loss at LA Tech the Owls have now lost to the top four teams in the league by a combined 12 points. Three of those losses have been by three points or less.

Overtime is Owls Time
Rice improved to 3-1 in overtime competition this season with their 79-73 double-OT victory at North Texas last Saturday. The four OT contests are the most played by the Owls in a single-season in school history and it marked the first time they’ve ever played the same opponent in OT twice in one season.

What’s On Deck
The Owls finally return home to face Charlotte on Thursday, Feb. 11, the team’s first contest at Tudor Fieldhouse since Jan. 23. Thursday will also mark the Owls’ annual Play 4 Kay/Pink Out game.
