Owls Look to Remain Perfect at Home
The Rice Owls will be in search of their 17th win of the season on Thursday when they host the Southern Miss Lady Eagles at 7 p.m. on beIN Sports. Rice is currently tied with UAB for second place in the Conference USA standings. The Owls are a perfect 8-0 this season at Tudor Fieldhouse while Southern Miss is 3-6 on the road. Southern Miss leads the all-time series over the Owls, 8-6.

Last Time Out
The Owls closed out the final four minutes of the fourth quarter on a 13-0 run to help propel them to a 53-45 win over the Old Dominion Monarchs last Sunday afternoon at Tudor Fieldhouse. Rice improved to 8-0 at Tudor Fieldhouse this season by outscoring the Monarchs 37-22 in the second half and making 7-of-11 attempts from beyond the arc in the final two quarters. The Owls’ defense shined once again, limiting ODU to just 35 percent shooting for the game and held their opponents below 70 points for a 12th straight game.

Southern Miss Scouting Report
The Lady Eagles have won four of their last five games, the lone loss coming in double overtime vs. Charlotte (85-79). During league play Southern Miss has three players averaging double-figures in points, led by sophomore guard Shonte Hailes (16.3 ppg), who has twice been named the C-USA Player of the Week this year. Southern Miss leads all C-USA teams in field goal percentage (44.2) during league play.

Doing it With Defense
The Owls currently have the number one scoring defense during C-USA play, allowing just 52 points per contest. Rice has held 12 straight opponents to below 70 points and are allowing C-USA foes to shoot just 36.4 percent from the field, also the lowest mark in C-USA.

Home Sweet Home
Dating back to last year, the Owls have won 12 consecutive games at Tudor Fieldhouse, including an 8-0 record this season. The last time Rice had such a streak stretched from 2004-2005 when Rice won 15 straight as a member of the WAC. The Owls have outscored opponents by an average of 17.3 points per game at home this year while surrendering just 46.1 points a game. The 12 consecutive home wins is tied for the eighth-longest in the country.

Best Start Since...
Rice’s 16-3 start to the season is their best record through 19 games since the 1981-82 (Division II) campaign when the Owls started 16-3. A win on Thursday would give the Owls their best 20-game start in program history.

Up Next
The Owls travel to Louisiana Tech on Feb. 7 for a 6:30 p.m. tip-off on CUSAtv.
