Owls Host Blue Raiders Saturday
The Rice Owls women’s basketball team will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak Saturday (2 p.m.) when they host the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders for the first time at Tudor Fieldhouse. MT has won the prior two meetings between the schools, including a 79-61 victory last season in Murfreesboro. Rice is 2-1 at home in C-USA play while the Blue Raiders are 4-3 this season away from the Murphy Center.

Last Time Out
The Owls came close to completing a 17-point comeback Thursday evening at Tudor Fieldhouse, but the UAB Blazers hit critical shots down the stretch en route to a 64-55 triumph. Both teams shot 50 percent from the field but UAB connected on 9-of-19 (47 percent) attempts from beyond the arc while Rice shot the long ball at just a 29 percent rate (4-of-14). UAB outscored the Owls in points in the paint (28-22), points off turnovers (22-20) and bench scoring (12-2).

Middle Tennessee Scouting Report
The Blue Raiders are coming off a dominant 76-52 victory at North Texas on Thursday in which four MT players scored in double figures. Senior transfer Brea Edwards leads the Blue Raiders in scoring at 18.3 points per game and ranks eighth in the nation in three-point makes per game (3.1). During league play the Blue Raiders have four players averaging double-figure points and are scoring 70 points as a team. The Blue Raiders were picked to win Conference USA in the Preseason Poll, garnering five first-place votes.

Knight Heating Up
Rice sophomore guard Wendy Knight has been on fire during C-USA play, shooting 52 percent from the field (19-of-36) and 47 percent (10-of-21) from beyond the arc. Knight is also 12-of-13 (92 percent) from the charity stripe all while playing nearly 38 minutes a game. In Thursday’s loss to UAB Knight scored 12 points for her fifth double-digit scoring performance of the season and fourth in six games during league play.

What’s On Deck
Rice hits the road for three consecutive games beginning Saturday, Jan. 30 at North Texas. The Owls defeated the Mean Green 100-97 at Tudor Fieldhouse back on Jan. 10 in an epic triple overtime which proved to be the highest combined scoring game in school history. Following the North Texas contest, Rice will then play road games at Louisiana Tech (Feb. 4) and Southern Miss (Feb. 6).
