Owls Host Lady Eagles Saturday
The Rice Owls women’s basketball squad closes out a quick two-game homestand on Saturday when they host the Southern Miss Lady Eagles at 2 p.m. Southern Miss leads the all-time series against the Owls, 7-5, including two victories over Rice last year. Rice is 5-3 (lost three straight) this season at Tudor Fieldhouse while Southern Miss is 3-3 overall on the road.

Last Time Out
A valiant Rice comeback came up just short Thursday evening, dropping a 70-67 decision in overtime to the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters at Tudor Fieldhouse. Rice lost in overtime for the second time in three games despite receiving a team-high 16 points off the bench from redshirt sophomore Nicole Iademarco and another 14 points from senior point guard Maya Hawkins. The Owls erased a 57-49 deficit in the final two minutes of regulation to force overtime but the Lady Techsters outscored Rice 11-8 in the extra five minutes.

Southern Miss Scouting Report
The Lady Eagles enter play having lost two straight, including a 75-62 setback at North Texas on Thursday. Senior guard Brittany Dinkins has been on a roll of late, scoring 20 or more points in four straight games and leads the team in scoring with 18.1 points per contest. Dinkins also leads all of C-USA in total steals (72) and steals per game (4.0). As a unit, Southern Miss ranks ninth in the nation in steals per game (12.4) and leads C-USA in turnovers forced per game (22.8).

Goodwine Moving Up the Scoring Chart
Rice senior forward Jasmine Goodwine (1,047 career points) is now just 26 points shy of moving past Brenda Conaway (1,072 points) for 13th place on the Rice all-time scoring list.

Iademarco Provides Scoring Boost
Redshirt sophomore Nicole Iademarco came off the bench against Louisiana Tech and scored a team-high 16 points along with a season-high eight rebounds. The Woodlands, Texas native also tied a season-high with four made three-pointers. Iademarco has scored in double-figures six times this season.

What’s Next
Rice hits the road for a pair of C-USA contests on the east coast, beginning with Old Dominion next Thursday, followed by an ESPN3 appearance at Charlotte on Jan. 28.
