The Rice women's basketball team hosts its first Conference USA game on Sunday, January 8 when SMU comes calling. Game time is set for 2 p.m. inside Tudor Fieldhouse. The Owls then host Tulane on Thursday (Jan. 12) at 7 p.m.

Rice Head Coach Greg Williams
Greg Williams (Rice, 1970) is now in his seventh season as the head coach of his alma mater. Williams has a 95-108 record at Rice and an 18-year career mark of 296-247.

Quick Look at the Owls
Rice began C-USA action by losing 60-45 at UAB on Thursday. Freshman Christal Porter was the only Owl to score in double-digits with 10 points.

Sophomore Jessica Kuster is the only C-USA player averaging a double-double at 18.0 ppg and 12.1 rpg. Kuster's 12.1 rebounds a game ranks second in the nation heading into the weekend. Senior Brianna Hypolite is averaging 12.2 ppg and freshman Christal Porter is at 6.0 rpg. Senior guard D'Frantz Smart has 487 career assists and is Rice's all-time assist leader, moving pass Kim Lawson's (1999-2003) total of 475 to hold the school record.

Vs. SMU
The Mustangs lead the series vs. Rice 34-31. The Owls won both meetings last season, 69-60 in Houston and 73-63 in Dallas. Jessica Kuster led Rice in both games with 22 and 23 points respectively.

Quick Look at SMU
The Mustangs lost their first C-USA game last Thursday at home vs. UTEP by a 64-53 count. Saman Mahnesmith is the SMU player averaging in double-digits in scoring at 10.0 ppg. Alisha Filmore (9.7) and Akil Simpson (9.4), and Christine Elliott (8.9) follow Mahnesmith in scoring. Elliott also leads the squad in rebounding at 8.1 rpg.
