DALLAS, Texas – Rice freshman forward Jasmine Goodwine was named C-USA Freshman of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Goodwine came off the bench to score a career-high 16 points in last Friday’s 72-57 victory over Incarnate Word.
Goodwine backed up a previous career-high set on Dec. 29 at Lamar (13 points) with a highly efficient 6-of-9 shooting performance versus Incarnate Word and made 4-of-5 free throws in just 22 minutes.
For the season the Killeen, Texas native is averaging 6.4 points per game and 4.8 rebounds in 22 minutes. Over the past four games Goodwine is averaging 11 points per contest while shooting 59 percent from the field.
Goodwine is the first Owl to be named Freshman of the Week this season and the first since sophomore Megan Palmer took home the honors on Dec. 12, 2012.
The Owls begin C-USA play this Wednesday at FIU, followed by a Saturday showdown at Florida Atlantic.
