Rice Game Notes Get Acrobat Reader

The Rice women's basketball team begins Conference USA action on Thursday, January 5 when it plays at UAB. Game time is set for 7 p.m. inside Bartow Arena. The Owls then host SMU on Sunday (Jan. 8) at 2 p.m.

Rice Head Coach Greg Williams
Greg Williams (Rice, 1970) is now in his seventh season as the head coach of his alma mater. Williams has a 95-107 record at Rice and an 18-year career mark of 296-246.

Quick Look at the Owls
The Owls concluded the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 6-7 record. Rice was 3-3 at home and 3-4 on the road.

Sophomore Jessica Kuster is the only C-USA player averaging a double-double at 18.8 ppg and 12.4 rpg. Senior Brianna Hypolite is averaging 13.0 ppg and freshman Christal Porter is at 5.7 rpg. Senior guard D'Frantz Smart has 483 career assists to move pass Kim Lawson's (1999-2003) total of 475 to hold the school record.

Series Vs. UAB
The Owls and the Blazers have each won three games in the series. Rice captured last season's game in Houston 58-52. D'Frantz Smart scored 18 points and Jessica Kuster grabbed 20 rebounds for the Owls.

After winning eight straight games, the Blazers lost at Florida A&M 69-59 on Jan. 2. UAB sports three players in double-digit scoring led by Amber Jones at 15.4. Karisma Chapman follows at 14.2, while LaShaunda Pratt averages 11.1 ppg. Reserve Megan Brown is the squad's top rebounder at 6.7 rpg.
