The Rice women's basketball team plays at Lamar on Monday, January 2. Game time is set for 7 p.m. inside the Montagne Center. This is the final non-conference game of the season for Rice. The Owls open Conference USA action at UAB (Jan. 5).

The Owls returned from holiday break in fine fashion with a 71-46 win at UTSA on Dec. 30. Jessica Kuster snared a career-high 21 rebounds with game-high 21 points to lead Rice.
Jessica Kuster is the only C-USA player averaging a double-double at 19.3 ppg and 12.7 rpg. Senior Brianna Hypolite is averaging 12.8 ppg and freshman Christal Porter is at 6.2 rpg. Senior guard D'Frantz Smart has 482 career assists to move pass Kim Lawson's (1999-2003) total of 475 to hold the school record.

Lamar leads the series 14-5 over Rice and won last season's contest 73-52 in Houston. Jessica Kuster led the Owls with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Kalis Loyd leads Lamar in almost every category this season. The junior from Malmoe, Sweden, tops the team in scoring (15.3 ppg), rebounding (6.2 rpg), assists (44), steals (30) and minutes played (387). She is tied with Taylor Hays for the team lead in blocked shots with eight. Loyd is ninth on Lamar's all-time scoring list with 1,130 points, and needs just six points to surpass Audrea Samuel for eighth on the all-time chart.
The Lady Cardinals own a 32-game non-conference winning streak at the Montagne Center, including 29 straight under coach Larry Tidwell. LU has not dropped a non-conference home game since falling to Oklahoma on Nov. 29, 2006.
