HOUSTON - The Rice Owls women's basketball team won their sixth consecutive game with a 96-42 victory over Huston-Tillotson Wednesday evening at Tudor Fieldhouse.
Rice, whose 9-2 record is the team's best 11-game start since the 1988-89 season (10-1), ran their season-high win streak to six straight games for the first time since the 2012-13 campaign. The Owls also matched their 2015-16 win total with their ninth victory of the season.
The Owls had five players score in double-figures, led by a game-high 19 points from junior guard Shani Rainey. The Fairfield, Texas native made 7-of-12 shots from the field in 26 minutes of action. Redshirt sophomore Nicole Iademarco posted her third straight game with 10 or more points off the bench by contributing 17 points on Wednesday, while sophomore guard Lauren Grigsby recorded the Owls' first double-double of the season with career-highs in points (16) and rebounds (12) in just 17 minutes.
Senior forward Jasmine Goodwine (11 points) and sophomore guard Gabrielle Stanton (11 points) also scored in double-figures for the Owls.
Rice backed up their 93-point performance on Sunday at ULM with a season-high 96 points against the Lady Rams (5-3). The Owls shot 50 percent from the field while limiting Huston-Tillotson to 34 percent shooting. Deandra Darjean led all players with 34 points while playing all 40 minutes.
The Owls will return to action on Dec. 30 when they being Conference USA play by hosting Old Dominion at 5 p.m. from Tudor Fieldhouse.
