Owls Trample Warhawks for Fifth Straight Win

MONROE, La. – The Rice Owls women’s basketball team ran their win streak to five straight games with a dominate 93-50 victory Sunday afternoon at ULM, capturing the team’s best 10-game start (8-2) since the 1988-89 season.

The Owls set a season-high and tied a school record for most three-point makes (12) in a single game, tying the mark set in 2000 in a game against Iona. Rice also set season-highs in points (93), made field goals (39), field goal percentage (.609) and assists (29).

Redshirt sophomore Nicole Iademarco was sensational off the bench for the Owls, setting a season-high with a game-high 20 points off the bench in 20 minutes. The Woodlands, Texas native made 8-of-14 shots from the floor, including 4-of-7 from three-point territory. Iademarco also dished out six assists with zero turnovers. Iademarco was part of Rice bench unit that amassed a staggering 57 points off the bench, a season-high.

Sophomore guard Gabrielle Stanton recorded a career-high 14 points off the bench for Rice while also establishing a career-high in assists (7). Stanton made 4-of-6 attempts from beyond the arc and had zero turnovers in 17 minutes.

Junior guard Shani Rainey chipped in an additional 11 points as did sophomore Lauren Grigsby, which was a career high from the Spring, Texas native. Rice senior guard Maya Hawkins led all players with a season-high nine assists and zero turnovers in just 17 minutes.

Rice led from start to finish and scored 20 or more points in all four quarters. The Owls jumped out to a 21-7 lead after the first quarter behind eight points from Iademarco. That lead grew to 45-18 at halftime following a second quarter in which the Rice defense limited ULM (2-8) to 17 percent shooting.

The Owls outscored the Warhawks 48-32 in the second half en route to the team’s fourth road victory of the season.

Rice will conclude their non-conference season on Wednesday, Dec. 21 when they host Huston-Tillotson at 5 p.m.
