SAN MARCOS, Texas- Rice downed Texas State 73-61 at Strahan Coliseum on Tuesday night, snapping a two-game losing streak. Jessica Kuster led the Owls with 26 points and 19 rebounds.

Rice was led by Preseason C-USA Player of the Year, Jessica Kuster, who posted season-highs in points and rebounds. Her 26 points and 19 rebounds, were good for her 29th career double-double. She added in a career-high four assists and a season-high three blocks.

The Owls (2-2) opened up a 12-5 lead at the 15:10 mark of the first half with a three-pointer by Jessica Goswitz to top off the run. Texas State (2-1) never led by more than two points in the first half, and the Owls closed out the session with a 9-0 run to give Rice a 39-28 advantage going into the break.

The Bobcats closed the deficit to within five early in the second half, but the Owls never let Texas State any closer. The Owls led by as many as 15 midway through the second half, before settling on the final margin of 12.

Jessica Goswitz reached double digits in scoring for the second straight game, putting in a season-high 13 points. She tied a season-high with five assists.

Megan Palmer had her third consecutive game with double digit points, scoring 14 to go along with nine rebounds.

Megan Shafer had her first career double-digit scoring game, netting a career-high 10 points.

Christal Porter and Alyssa Lang each had nine rebounds, tied for second on the team with Palmer and behind Kuster. The Owls dominated on second-chance points, outscoring Texas State 19-4 on second opportunities and collecting a total of 17 offensive boards.

The Owls return to action on Saturday, November 24 as they travel to Little Rock, Ark. to face UALR. Rice returns to Tudor Fieldhouse on Tuesday, November 27 to host No. 3 Baylor.
