Rice led the entire game as it jumped to out a 20-6 lead in the opening frame, starting the game 7-of-10 from the floor and 4-of-6 from three. However, the Owls missed seven of its final eight shots as HBU cut the deficit to 20-10.

In the second quarter, Rice shot 50.0% from the floor and continued its hot shooting from downtown, again connecting on four-of-six three pointers and the Owls pushed its lead to 42-20 at the break.

Langley added, "I was really pleased with the intensity that we started the game with. I thought, on both ends of the floor, that we had good pace. We really played incredibly hard together, functioning as a unit. I'm excited for where this team is going because we really play well together."

Rice was held to just 3-of-14 shooting in the third quarter, but HBU (1-2) was only able to pull to within 19 points by the end of the stanza.
