Waco, Texas - Number-two ranked Baylor had four players reach double-digits in scoring en route to a 95-51 victory over Rice in the World Vision Classic at the Ferrell Center in front of 6,723 fans. The Bears outscored Rice 21 to 4 in the first 9 minutes of the contest and led at the half 59-24.
The Owls (1-2) shot 31 percent and were led by guards Jessica Goswitz and D'Frantz Smart who scored 12 and 11 points respectively. Megan Elliott added 9 points and Opal Taskila scored 8. Freshman Jessica Kuster led Rice in rebounding with 9 boards to go with 4 points and 3 blocks.
For Baylor (3-0) Terran Condrey led all scorers with 16 points, while Britney Griner posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards with 7 blocks. Shanay Washington added 15 points, while Makenzie Robertson contributed 12 points.
Baylor, certainly proved why it's the number-two team in the country, as it shot 45 percent from the field, with 15 blocks on the day, and outrebounding Rice 62 to 37.
Rice will have its first home game of the season on Wednesday, November 17 when its hosts Stephen F. Austin. Action tips off at 7 p.m. inside Tudor Fieldhouse.
