HOUSTON, Texas - On a day that celebrated Rice senior forward Jessica Kuster as one of the greatest players in school history, it was the UTEP Miners who came away victorious Saturday afternoon in a 72-57 win over the Owl on Senior Day.

Kuster, who was joined by family members and honored before the game, fell three points shy of her 13th consecutive double-double and the 66th of her career with seven points and 10 rebounds in 40 minutes of action. The San Antonio, Texas native saw a constant triple team for a majority of the game and was limited to just nine shot attempts.

Rice (12-16, 5-10) played toe-to-toe with the Miners in the first half and led by as much as six points before UTEP (23-5, 12-3) outscored the Owls 42-28 in the final 20 minutes to pull away. Junior forward Christal Porter had the best game of her season with a game-high 21 points and 15 rebounds for her third double-double of the year. Porter made 8-of-16 shots from the floor (5-of-6 at the free throw line) and dished out four assists.

UTEP had three players score in double-figures, led by 18 points from center Kristine Vitola. The Miners had big advantages in points in the paint (38-24), points off turnovers (19-2) and bench scoring (33-13).

The Owls were limited to just 35 percent shooting for the game and made just 3-of-15 three-point attempts.

Rice will next travel to UAB on Wednesday, March 5 for the final regular game of the 2013-14 season before traveling to El Paso to play in the C-USA Tournament beginning on March 11.
