HOUSTON- Rice's women's basketball team snapped a five-game losing streak with a 61-53 victory over UAB at Tudor Fieldhouse. Jessica Kuster led the Owls with 18 points.

"It was a much-needed win for our basketball team," said Rice Head Coach Greg Williams. "It was extremely important to us to come out here and get a win."

After giving up the first basket of the game, the Owls went on an 11-0 run to take an 11-2 lead by the 17:01 mark of the first half. Rice led by as many as 16 and took a 30-21 lead into the break, helped by 10 points and eight rebounds in the half by Jessica Kuster.

Rice (10-11, 2-6 C-USA) scored the first four points of the second half, and never let UAB (13-7, 4-3 C-USA) any closer than nine points until the final minute of play, where UAB closed the deficit to six, but it was not enough as the Owls prevailed 61-53.

Rice is now 9-3 at home this season, and 2-2 at home in C-USA play.

Kuster posted her 11th double-double of the season with 18 points and 14 rebounds. She made her first eight shots from the line, extending a streak to 16 consecutive makes, which dated back to Jan. 24, before missing her first.
