GREENVILLE, N.C.- The Owls dropped their C-USA opener to East Carolina 60-41 Thursday night in Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum. Maya Adetula led the Owls with a career-high 10 points.

The Pirates (11-3, 1-0 C-USA) started the game on a 10-0 run, and led Rice (8-6, 0-1 C-USA) 36-21 at halftime. East Carolina shot 50.0% from beyond the arc in the first half.

East Carolina outscored the Owls 24-20 in the second half. Rice held the Pirates to just 1-of-10 3-point shooting in the second half, but it was not enough to overcome the 15-point halftime spread.

Rice outscored East Carolina 26-20 in points in the painted area. Rice received 21 points from its bench to ECU's 13.

Maya Adetula posted a career-high 10 points in just 13 minutes of play, her first career double-digit scoring game. She previously had a career-high of seven points, set on Jan. 22, 2012 at Southern Miss.

Jessica Kuster led the Owls with eight rebounds and scored six points.

Christal Porter had four steals to match her career-high.
