Greg Williams, Rice Head Coach
"We are pleased to bring a former Owl back home as our new video coordinator," said Rice Head Coach Greg Williams, upon her hiring. "Amber completed her excellent Rice playing career with her senior year being my first at Rice. She was a fierce competitor and will bring high energy and enthusiasm back to a program she loves."
Cunningham played for Rice from 2002-06, and ranks sixth in Rice history in career 3-pointers made. She participated in the 2005 NCAA Tournament for the Owls and two WNIT tournaments. She went on to have a four year career playing professionally in Europe, playing for Viernheim (Germany), Alexandria (Romania), Forssa (Finland), Gotha (Germany) and Sandhausen (Germany).
Starting in 2012, she was an assistant coach for Fairfax High School in her hometown of Los Angeles, Calif., helping the squad to a 24-7 record in 2012-13 and an appearance in the CIF Los Angeles Section Division I Championship Game.
Cunningham graduated with a B.A. in psychology from Rice in 2006, and added a master's in teaching from USC in 2013.
