Hall of Fame Induction Banquet: This year's 36th Rice University Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place Friday, Oct. 23 at the Doubletree Hotel by Hilton, Greenway Plaza. The weekend festivities will include a tailgate before the home football game on Saturday, Oct. 24, along with Hall of Fame recognition during the game.
This year's Hall of Fame inductees are Richard Barker '04 and William Barker '04 (men's tennis), Richard Bubba Crosby '01 (baseball), Jarett Dillard '08 (football), Funmilayo Jimoh '06 (women's track and cross country), Holly Jones-Wright '88 (women's basketball), Brent Scott '04 (men's basketball) and Lauren Shockley '05 (women's soccer).
In addition to the Hall of fame inductees, we will honor five other outstanding individuals. The Honorary "R" Award, given for "long-standing support of the department of athletics by his or her attendance, enthusiasm and involvement," will be awarded to Hally Beth Poindexter and Eva Lee. The Distinguished "R" award for "lifelong excellence in business, community and commitment to Rice Athletics" will be awarded to Guy Jackson '69, Tommy Reckling '54 and Stephen Trauber '84.
The Hall of Fame Induction Banquet event takes place in odd numbered years and is designed to recognize individuals who have brought honor and distinction to Rice University and to Rice Athletics. Chosen members are inducted into the Rice Athletics Hall of Fame, Honorary R members are recognized and the Distinguished R Award, Rice Athletics highest honor, is presented.
Night of the Owl: This all-sports banquet, presented in conjunction with SAAC, is held each spring to recognize the athletic, academic and community accomplishments of our scholar-athletes.
Scholar-Athlete Banquet: Presented in conjunction with Rice Athletics Academic Advising, the Scholar-Athlete Banquet is held each spring to honor the academic endeavors of our outstanding student-athletes.
Senior Breakfast: The R Association celebrates Commencement with our scholar-athletes and their families with a breakfast before the festivities each year.
Other Social and Fundraising Events: The "R" Association encourages letterwinner participation in a wide range of social and fundraising events throughout the year. Numerous golf tournaments, team banquets, tailgates, and team reunions are planned.
