Rice Athletics and the R Association once again honored some of its best and brightest on Sunday evening as the 2018 Rice Scholar Athletes and Honor Athletes were honored during the 32nd annual Scholar Athlete Banquet in the R Room at Rice Stadium.

Sponsored by the ‘R’ Association, Rice University Scholar Athletes are selected from a pool of Honor Athletes (3rd, 4th, and 5th year student-athletes that maintain a 3.4 GPA for single majors and 3.3 for engineering or double majors) during the spring semester of every academic year.

Roster sizes are used to determine the number of Scholar Athletes honored each year. Football and track are each allotted three honorees each year, while all other sports honor one. Awardees are determined by the OAAA (Office of Academic Advising for Athletics) in conjunction with the Athletics Department coaching staff. A student-athlete’s GPA is the primary factor for review in each selection process. However, a student-athlete’s major, year in school, and athletic contributions may also influence the final decision.
