Rice Senior Associate Director of Athletics Rick Mello announced on Friday that Chad Kocian has been promoted to Associate AD for Sales and Marketing.
Kocian joined the department in 2011 as the Assistant AD for Sales and Marketing. In addition to his current duties, he will assume responsibility for the Owls ticket operations as well as serving as the liaison with IMG in managing the Owls media rights and sponsorships.
"I have been very pleased with the advancements our sales and marketing division has made under Chad's leadership," Rice Senior Associate AD Rick Mello said. "We have not only made advancements in our marketing message and our game day environment but the incorporation of Collegiate Consulting as our ticket sales force has increased revenue and our community presence significantly. Chad has done an excellent job of putting programs in place that will serve us well in the future."
Kocian and his staff introduced the successful "Together" branding campaign in the Fall of 2012 as well as spearheading an upgraded tailgate experience for football and the introduction of "The Roost" at men's basketball. He oversaw the partnership with Collegiate Consultants to enhance the Owls group and season ticket sales efforts, which led to a dramatic increase in group sales in basketball as well as to a successful sales campaign for the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl.
The Rice Marketing Staff was honored by the Houston chapter of the American Marketing Association as their 2012 Marketer of the Year in the amateur sports category.
