IRVING, Texas - Freshman Harry Sagel and senior Anthony Urbanelli were each named to the 2013 Conference USA Men's Cross Country All-Academic Team, the league announced on Thursday.
The six-man, all-academic team consists of student-athletes who have earned a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better and are a key member on their team.
Sagel, a sophomore from Girona, Spain, posted a 3.58 GPA while majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He finished 19th at the C-USA Championships in Denton two weeks and was the Owls top finisher at the Rim Rock Classic in Lawrence, Kansas, finishing sixth with a time of 25:04 in the 8k race.
Sagel finished in the Top-10 at the Rice Invitational, helping the Owls defeat the likes of Texas A&M, Houston and TCU and win the home meet with a time of 17:03 (9th place) in the 5,500m. Sagel placed 22nd at the Crimson Classic (8,033m), clocking in at 25:25 to help guide the Owls to a sixth place finish in the 23-team event. Sagel was a C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection in 2013.
Urbanelli, a senior from Woodlands, Texas, holds a 3.76 GPA in mechanical engineering and placed 94th at the Rice Invitational in the 5,500m with a time of 18:43. He Placed 35th at the 2010-11 CUSA XC Championship (25:52) and 45th at the 2011-12 CUSA XC Championship (26:52:8).
Urbanelli has been named to the Rice University President’s Honor Roll three times, as well as the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll three times.
