COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Rice redshirt senior Will Firth closed out his cross country career with an 18th place finish at Friday's NCAA South Central Regional Championships at the Dale Watts XC Course hosted by Texas A&M.
Firth earned NCAA All-Regional honors by finishing the 10k race in a time of 30:41.1, a pace of 4:56.
"Will got up in the mix to make the NCAA meet but faded towards the end," Rice men's cross country head coach Jon Warren said. "He definitely had a nice effort today."
Redshirt sophomore Marco Ruiz was the Owls second finisher, placing 61st in a time of 32:09.0. Other Owl competitors included Brad Dohner (63rd-32:10.1), Connor Meaux (76th-32:34.3), James McCreary (80th-32:38.7), Harry Sagel (33:16.0) and Griffin Lee (34:21.3).
Rice finished the meet with 297 points to place 11th out of 24 teams. Arkansas (51 points), Texas (69 points), and Texas A&M (85 points) finished in that order for the top three honors.
