Rice's men's cross country had a strong showing at the 2012 Conference USA Championships, hosted by Southern Miss, with a third place finish. Gabe Cuadra led Rice with an eighth place finish.
"The team had a great day, from top to bottom," said Rice Head Coach Jon Warren. "I'm very happy and very proud of our team."
The Owls have finished in the top three of C-USA seven of the eight seasons they have been in the league.
Cuadra finished in 24:34.2, and earned second team All-C-USA honors. John Cavallo (25:16.9) finished 15th, James Llamas (25:18.5) finished 16th, Travis Roberts (25:30.0) finished 20th and Meron Fessahaie (25:31.8) finished 21st. Cavallo, Llamas, Roberts and Fessahaie all earned third team All-C-USA honors.
Matt Carey ran a season-best 25:56.2 and finished in 29th place. Wyatt Doop finished 36th with a 26:20.5, Henry Giles ran a 26:22.6 and finished 39th.
