LOUISVILLE, KY – Rice redshirt senior Will Firth placed 11th individually and the Owls finished 14th overall as a team at Saturday’s Pre-National meet hosted by Louisville.
Competing in the 8000m black group (B section) Rice had seven runners compete in the 207-person field, placing four runners in the top 100.
Firth, from Phoenix, Ariz., ran a season-best 24:19.0. Other Owl competitors included sophomore Bradley Dohner (58th-25:06.1), junior Harry Sagel (67th-25:08.3) and sophomore Marco Ruiz (81st-25:14.6). Freshman Connor Meaux (25:37.6), Steve Booker (26:25.5) and Griffin Lee (26:57.6) finished in that order.
"Overall it was a solid day and a step in the right direction," Rice men's cross country head coach Jon Warren said. "Especially for Harry, who had his best race this season and Will ran awesome. Brad, Marco and Connor all had respectable efforts so as a whole we can be pleased with this result. That being said, I really think this group has so much more in them. I'm excited to see what they can do at conference in two weeks."
Saturday marked the final race for the Owls before the C-USA Championships, which will be held Oct. 31 in Bowling Green, KY with WKU hosting.
