Pre-National Invitational Results

Terre Haute, Ind. - The Rice men's cross country squad placed 22nd at the Pre-National Invitational held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country course at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center on Sunday.

Rice finished with 649 points as Colorado won the team title with 82 points and Portland was second with 104. Iona's Leonard Korir won the 8K race with a time of 23:55.

"Today's meet did not go as well as I had hoped," commented Rice head coach Jon Warren. "We trained pretty hard leading up to this meet, so I expected the guys to be a little beat up, but I thought we would be okay. I miscalculated a bit and a few guys felt rough. We also had some bad luck with Matt Carey getting knocked down, twice. We still have plenty of time to get it together for the Conference USA Championship."

Sophomore John Cavallo was the Owls' top finisher at 99 (25:44) and Gabe Cuadra followed at 107 (25:47).
