Warren Announces Signing of Stolsig
Nov. 29, 2014
HOUSTON, Texas - Rice University head men's track and field coach Jon Warren has announced the signing of high school thrower Dane Stolsig to a National Letter of Intent.
Stolsig, from West Florida High School, was the Florida 2A state champion in both the shot put (55'4") and discus (175'2"). Stolsig, who also boasts a personal best 192'3" in the javelin, is ranked as the No. 10 high school javelin thrower in the nation entering his senior year and No. 21 in the discus.
"I am very happy to announce that Dane will be a Rice Owl starting next year," Rice men's track and field head coach Jon Warren said. "He is the dominant thrower in multiple events and is one of the top returning seniors in the country. It doesn't hurt that he is an outstanding student as well. I look forward to seeing Dane develop as an athlete, a student and a thrower in the upcoming years."
Stolsig was a bronze medal winner at the AAU junior Olympics in the javelin in 2012. He followed that up with a triple gold medal performance at the AAU National Club Championships in Orlando in 2013.
